Pierre Jeanneret

In 1947, Le Corbusier was commissioned by the Indian prime minister, to lead the design of Chandigarh, the new capital city of Punjab. His long time collaborator and cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, was assigned as senior site architect, and one of his remarkable contributions, was the furniture he designed for the entire complex. Jeanneret's minimal yet sophisticated and functional designs were executed by local craftsmen using locally-sourced materials, such as teak, rosewood and caning. Today the original pieces stand out with its exceptional patina and character, each with its own story. read less
