Emma Zhang, born in Wuhan, China, in 1982. Inspired by antique books, paper, and canvases, Zhang's artworks offer a unique texture and narrative. Trained at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and the École supérieure d’art in France, she now works from her Beijing studio. Zhang's artistic practice centers on simplicity and purity, avoiding conventional meanings. Her trademark earthy palette and focus on handmade paper, antique books, and fabrics create a quiet yet textured aesthetic. Influenced by Agnes Martin, Zhang invites viewers to explore the understated layers and subtle textures in her monochromatic works, each holding a unique challenge and personal connection to life's nuances
