Armando Chant creates quiet, atmospheric paintings on linen. Working with mineral pigments, he builds and pares back layers—adding, withholding and reworking marks—until an image rests at the edge of recognition, felt before it is named. The weave of the linen and the weight of pigment act as subjects in their own right. Measured and tactile, the paintings invite sustained, present looking and a calm, contemplative sense of place.
